Suggestions for getting music for your iPod.
Thursday, August 4th, 2011AOL Radio and Yahoo! Launchcast listeners are now building their iPod music collection for free thanks to iGetMusic, a new recording tool.
Traditionally building a free iPod music collection has been a tedious task. The most common method would be ripping tracks from a CD and then convert them to MP3s. As a final step, title and artist information would be added by hand or by using a download service.
This traditional approach has changed more recently as more and more users are downloading tracks from online retailers such as iTunes or P2P networks. Aside from P2P downloads not always being legal, downloading individual tracks takes a significant amount of time. Having to manually enter track information, searching and then downloading individual tracks for hundreds or even thousand tracks will take a large amount of time. In addition, the record industry, plagued by ever falling sales, has flooded P2P networks with fakes in an attempt to slow illegal downloads.
As an alternative, internet radio listeners have begun using various recording software such as StreamRipper to rip online radio stations and automatically build their music collection as a legal and time-saving alternative to MP3 downloads. However, the biggest problem with this method is that online radio stations are cross-fading between tracks and inserting station announcements which requires that each recorded track is missing a piece at the beginning and end. Internet radio rippers are mostly using the title information that is broadcast in order to determine the beginning and the end of individual tracks. In other words: when the title information changes, the ripper will cut the track. The problem is that online radio stations these days are deliberately varying the time when the title information changes in relation to the beginning of each track. As a result, to get decently cut tracks, users would have to manually edit each track that has been recorded and thus spend a significant amount of time.
A new recording tool from Amphony called “iGetMusic” avoids the drawbacks of these traditional approaches by extracting tracks from free online radio services such as AOL Radio and Yahoo! Launchcast, which each offer hundreds of music genres. This application will run in the background and store each song that is being broadcast by these online music services into a directory of choice. Each track is properly tagged by iGetMusic with title, artist, album and genre information which allows organizing tracks in iTunes and other music organizers. The tracks saved by iGetMusic are full length, i.e. do not miss anything at the beginning or ending. Having properly tagged songs is important when trying to play songs from a particular artist or album.
When using iGetMusic, a user would launch the application and then open up one or several browser tabs at the same time and tune into any channel of the supported radio services such as AOL Radio. iGetMusic is actually able to grab songs from several browsers running in parallel. In practice this means that the software can rip several thousand tracks in a single day. The recording speed is in practice only limited by the speed of the internet connection and the computer. iGetMusic will check which songs already exist in the music collection and not record duplicate of songs.
Another feature is the ability to automatically save album covers. These covers can be displayed in a media player such as Winamp or on an iPod. Further, a user can create a blacklist with the names of artists that iGetMusic should not record.
One important consideration when using iGetMusic is storage capacity of an iPod due to the large number of tracks that iGetMusic will create. An iPod nano has a memory of up to 16 GBytes and can hold up to 4000 MP3s depending on the sound quality or bit rate. Instead of MP3, iGetMusic uses the AAC Plus (M4A) format which cuts the size of the song files in half without sacrificing sound quality compared to MP3s. Therefore an iPod nano can store up to 8000 tracks generated by iGetMusic (somewhat less if album covers are stored as well). Some MP3 players do not yet have AAC Plus support. In this case iGetMusic recommends batch conversion of the tracks using a free 3rd party tool.

Friday, June 10th, 2011How iTunes changed the game for portable music players
Friday, April 29th, 2011It is hard keeping up with technology but one thing is for sure, if you have not already gone digital then you are being left behind. It seems like only last week that CD and DVD were the breakthrough format, but now in an age of MP3 and digitally formatted music and video it is time to look at where we are heading and who is best aligned to take us there.
The new age of digital music and media means that you can now take your entertainment on the road with you. These new digital media players are lighter, smaller and more sophisticated than ever before.
Without doubt the most advanced media player at this time is the series from Apple with the range of free songs for your iPod seemingly endless. And that’s just the start of what the i series offers.
Portable DVD players are still a big seller, and this is mainly because of the price drop as Apple iTunes and other media companies have taken over the market.
Portable DVD players were a hit also because you could plug them into an external monitor. The same is true with nearly all portable digital music and media players but this time around the quality is a hundred times better and you can put your entire video collection on one player.
These usually include a headphone output plus a wide variety of digital and analog outputs for other connection possibilities.
Other portable DVD players lack an attached screen but they could be easily plugged into TV monitors wherever you go in a car, boat or vacation house. You have also the option to use one as regular player at your home.
There are even portable video players especially designed to be used inside a car some of which could be installed and others can be hooked up for long road trips or put away for regular about town driving.
Regardless of the type of portable music player you choose, and whether its the lates iPod from Apple or an older portable DVD player, you should always consider purchasing the headphones separate. A good quality pair of headphones can make a huge difference to the output of sound and video that you get.
There is no point in spending all this money on a quality media player only to go cheap on the headphones and end up listening to bad quality sound.
When looking at where the digital media age is heading I definitely think Apple are in the best position to take us forward from here. I recommend Apple as the company to take us in to the future. range of music players and the advances in iTunes and the App store it is surprising that anyone else can even think to keep up.

iTouch Radio Transmitters for On-the-Go Music
Thursday, March 31st, 2011The technology of the greatest inventions of the 21st century is the iPod, made by Apple. Everybody knows that Apple’s iPod is a famous brand in the world! An iPod is a small portable, walkman-like mp3 player with a hard disk or flash drive inside. Hard disk sizes vary but reach 60 gigabytes. A 60 GB hard disk easily fits thousands of high quality full music albums. Image having all your music at hand, wherever you go!
Unfortunately it is a crime to listen to your mp3 player through your headsets while driving. So what can you do if you want to truly bring your songs with you everywhere you go? A fantastic solution for using the iPod in your auto is to use a FM modulator that may produce better sound, and can recharge the batteries, though it can’t be directly controlled from your radio. You may have this built in, so you should check because the fact is that newer automobiles are coming bundled with iPod radio connectors so you may not actually need to get a transmitter.
What makes it work next? Well, to begin with, you just aren’t trying to catch radio stations to listen to with your ipod touch FM transmitter. What you are doing instead is actually catching an unused or very low power FM transmission (an FM station). There are some issues such as interference problems, but they are nominal if you choose a good frequency.
A different way to connect the iPod is going to be on partial older systems which have stereo system AUX within RCA upon the rear of the unit. In order to do the installation of your car iPod yourself several items are needed. A flat head screwdriver and a Phillips screwdriver are both essentials, in addition to a docking connector and, or course, an iPod player. RCA is really a link that looks like the audio allowing you to connect your TV sound and it is generally signified by a cable along with 2 finishes, 1 white and 1 red. So that you can effectively connect your Mp3 player to this scenario, you will have to invest in a 1/8″ stereo-to-RCA cord at your local Radio Shack.
You may have to pull the actual stereo system from the console. Hook the white and red RCA ends using their corresponding female RCA ends on the back again of the stereo system and then wrap the actual cord out of an additional socket to the side from the gaming console to the location an individual commonly keep the iPod. Plug the 1/8″ side of the cable into your own iPod touch, power this on, and that’s it.
As you have seen, this is a lot of work and involves taking apart your car. It’s much easier to use a stereo transmitter hookup and simply broadcast the music activity wirelessly to your speakers, which is already built to pick up radio air waves. This is excellent if you drive numerous cars or wish to bring your songs with you in a pal’s ride.
IPod radio transmitters are small and have exquisite appearance. And perhaps they are the perfect fashion addition because of their multiple color scheme to go with the variety of Apple iPods available today.
Many factors can influence your purchase of a iPod FM transmitters, but it is the best purchase you can make for yourself. More reviews are available at ipodradiotransmitter.org and elsewhere on the web.
