i’m working on a ‘popstars’ unit for my students – can someone help me explain/define exactly what pop music is? such as… what is a pop ‘star’? possibly give me some context/history of pop, or how it fits in ‘pop culture’? … what is pop culture? anyone know any good sites/books etc i can look at to find information on the pop genre?

I don’t get it. If everyone (the majority anyway) hates pop music, how do they sell so many CD’s and become famous then? What’s the big deal with listening to pop music? It just seems now-a-days the teenage population and hell, even young adults such as myself, are too afraid to admit to liking some of it due to it being "uncool".
My teachers told me that SOME rap music but not all, insult women. How does this music do that?
