Devendra Banhart's What Will We Be Album Info

We don’t have an exact release date, but Devendra’s new label, Warner/Reprise, sent out a stream of What Will Be a couple days ago, so we do have the track list. We also know Banhart’s sixth album runs for 50:31 and were told “the stuff sounds wicket good…” (Thanks for the tip, Lars.) The 14-track collection follows 2007’s Smokey Rolls Down Thunder Canyon and was co-produced by DB and Band Of Bees’ Paul Butler. Banhart’s backed by Smokey mates Noah Georgeson, Megapuss Greg Rogove on drums, bassist Luckey Remington and guitarist Rodrigo Amarante on it. No word on whether or not Andy Cabic’s also inhaling any of Dev’s fumes. Take a look at the album art while you ponder the song titles.

Lennon Vs. McCartney: Who Wrote Each Of Their 27 #1 Hits?

Friday, July 31st, 2009

Another way to look at the John Vs. Paul battle that has been my muse this week: Who wrote more of their #1 hits? I’m going to focus on the 27 Beatles songs that reached #1 in either the US or the UK (in many cases their songs reached #1 in both.) It’ll be [...]

New A Camp Video -

When we debuted A Camp’s “Love Has Left The Room,” we asked frontwoman Nina Persson a bit about the song’s storyline. In response to the question about whether or not love leaves a trace once it walks out the door, she told us:

Well, I really think that a lot of traces remain after love has left the room, and the song is about a love that left without a really clear ending, so that’s probably even worse! No closure … sucks. But in my experience, love can certainly also disappear completely. I have a few exes that I’d rather die than be with again, and some that became very very close friends after we tried to have a sexual relationship.

A Camp’s colorfully baroque Maximilla Lukacs and Sarah Flicker-directed video for the song offers a different feel than what the band did for “Stronger Than Jesus.” Because its hard to be stronger than the Son Of Man after you’ve been dumped and just want to wallow by the ocean with a flower, a knife, and the key to your heart (and room).

Jarvis Cocker Visits Jimmy Fallon, Escapes Wrath Of Questo

Last night Jarvis Cocker gave a spirited and loose-limbed performance of his Further Complications title track. He clearly enjoyed himself (and his magic hands). To further complicate things, though, there was a certain Roots drummer on site who was less than thrilled with the Pulp man’s presence. As Questo Tweeted during the evening’s festivities:

hmmm. fighting the urge to get jarvis cocker for that MJ incident some years back. dude looks THROWED.

You be the judge of his throwedness.

New Mt. St. Helens Vietnam Band Video – “Albatross Albatross Albatross” (Stereogum Premiere)

New Mt. St. Helens Vietnam Band Video -

A year ago today (7/31) we suggested you keep your eyes peeled for Seattle’s Mt St. Helens Vietnam Band. Coincidentally, it’s also the first anniversary of the quintet’s debut show. Really, what better time then to take a look at the Matt Daniels-directed video for “Albatross Albatross Albatross,” a track from the crew’s self-titled Dead Oceans debut. It’s an idyllic old-timey clip set in a gorgeous landscape, but things shift dramatically when the male half of a happy couple shoots someone by mistake when hunting gulls. The lesson? Dense forests aren’t good places to be haunted by ghosts.

Choosing A Drum Set

Friday, July 31st, 2009

Many childhood dreams, whether it is a male or a female child, is to be a drummer in a band or have their own drum to play with. Looking at a drummer doing his thing is so cool that it is very easy to picture yourself in his shoes. That is the easy part. Actually playing drums is quite a different thing.

It takes a lot of concentration, practice and even strength to play the drum really well. Weakling cannot stand doing it for long. In fact, those with heart problems are not allowed to do it. History has had several famous band drummers retire after realizing they have a heart problem as this may be worsened by their drumming.

For those who can master this art, then you surely are in for a great hobby or even a career. Before you can think that far however, what you should be busy with first is choosing a drum set.

You cannot expect to be good in it if you do not have your own drum set to practice with regularly. For sure the other members of the household will hate you for the noise. This will however be forgotten is you can already play good music with it.

You can only start choosing a drum set if you visit a music store of you browse online for the perfect set that will satisfy your fancy. Do not be immediately disappointed with the prices as these drums do not come cheap.

However, since this will be your first set, it is best to be practical and get something that is affordable. Afterall, this set will only serve as your practice set. If the time comes when you are already improving, you may already start becoming conscious and purchase the more quality drum sets that will easily enhance the way you play.
